    As part of the GMF-IO Legal Staff, the Legal Director in Mexico is responsible for the effective and efficient delivery of high quality legal advice by the Legal team in Mexico to the GMF’s business operations in Mexico.

     

    This role oversees the litigation, corporate contracts & other legal matters in country; providing high quality legal advisory services and ensuring legal compliance with applicable laws and regulations aligned with corporate guidelines and policies.

    Responsibilities

    • Participate in relevant business decisions to identify and mitigate legal risks.
    • Advise on all legal issues involving corporate, financial and operational matters.
    • Select, manage and supervise external counsel when needed to support internal advisory needs.
    • Secretary to the local board of directors and membership of relevant committees.
    • Strategic drafting and/or review of communications with regulators and review internal policies.
    • Assisting with the structure and legal advice related to treasury and capital market products.
    • Manage legal costs within established budgets.
    • Develop and execute effective strategies for managing and resolving litigation.
    • Maintain network of key relevant contacts in peer companies, law firms and regulatory agencies.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor degree in Law is required; Master’s preferred (Corporate Law, Finance or Business)
    • Fluency in English and Spanish is required
    • At least +7 years of legal advisory & Strong knowledge and experience in commercial and consumer credit transactions
    • General knowledge of litigation process and court rules
    • Knowledge of laws related to collateral security interests
    • Knowledge of and familiarity with key consumer/commercial finance regulations
    • Strong knowledge and experience in corporate governance matters
    • Aptitude for managing legal issues/projects and reporting accountabilities within a larger legal staff operation; ability to work with peers in other countries
    • Experience managing and developing teams of legal professionals
