The Enterprise Batch Engineer is responsible for building, deploying and maintaining a central Automic ONE batch scheduler controlling diverse endpoints across multiple technology platforms. The Engineer works in support of various business and technology departments to build, test, document and deploy batch schedules and jobs as requested. Batch will control scripts, SQL, file transfer, and a comprehensive list of standard and specialized business applications. Works in close collaboration with a team of seasoned Engineers collectively responsible for implementing and maintaining global technology monitoring in a 24x7 production environment.

 

The role is for an International Finance Company - comprising 2,700 users over 25 sites in 17 countries. The candidate will need to be able to demonstrate strong analytical and troubleshooting skills and be comfortable working within a truly global environment. Experienced in Enterprise Server and network engineering / support.

Responsibilities

Position Objectives and Responsibilities

 

  • Provide internal and external customers with excellent customer service while striving to provide world-class service.
  • Provide technical support for projects as part of a team of Architect and Engineers
  • Provide solutions to meet business / project demands based on corporate standards.
  • Effectively communicate current status of all projects, problems, and issues to the line manager.
  • Attend departmental, project and general meetings and effectively represent current status as appropriate.
  • Plan, prioritize, and provide vision and schedules for assigned software and / or hardware changes.
  • Study and analyse the performance and capacities of the systems and peripheral equipment/systems and prepare plans for future expansion and upgrades.   
  • Create and maintain the configuration of automation tools and sub systems
  • Design, develop, troubleshoot and maintain scripts: Build in efficiencies and job templates as needed
  • Perform initial debugging procedures by reviewing configuration files, logs or code pieces to determine where the procedure has broken down.
  • Interface with the Development and Sustain teams to identify opportunities to improve processes through automation.
  • Coordinate the introduction of new objects into the enterprise and work with Operations support staff to ensure that all necessary procedures for monitoring, escalation and recovery are clearly documented
  • Build batch schedules and implement the appropriate job dependencies
  • Perform incident, problem, change and query management in support of Operations staff
  • Perform troubleshooting and fault analysis; provide recommendations for improvement
  • Maintain and optimize scheduling tool software and database environments
  • Provide support for critical system changes outside of business hours.
  • Some after-hours work and periodic on call support will be required.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Successful candidate will have experience of implementing/administering enterprise batch tools including extensive project related work.
  • Experience of supporting global organizations.
  • Experience in enterprise server and network engineering/support
  • Advanced job related certifications preferred but not required.

  • Ability to create and interpret extensive varieties of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form. Able to work with abstract concepts and capable of communicating complex technologies to non and semi-technical customers.
  • Demonstrated skill in automation of Windows OS, UNIX, Linux, MS SQL Server, Cisco IOS, Oracle RDBMS and others.
  • Ability to generate meaningful technical and management level reports from various data sources.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of scripting languages including Power Shell, UNIX shell, Perl, and VB script.
  • Knowledge of UC4 / Automic ONE preferred.
